LIVES Trauma Care for Fire and Rescue   

Course Price: £3,495 per 4 day course minimum 8 maximum 12 delegates

This LIVES course is designed for Fire and Rescue Services. Delegates will on successful completion be awarded the HSE First Aid at Work and IHCD First Person on Scene Intermediate Certificates.

 

The Institute of Health Care Development (IHCD) is the Awarding Body (via Edexcel) for NHS Ambulance Services throughout the United Kingdom. The Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care at the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh maintains standards in pre-hospital medical care for doctors, emergency service personnel and nurses.

 

This four day course can now be offered at LIVES HQ in Horncastle Lincolnshire, or the Fire and Rescue organisation's training location. It consists of the following:

  Introduction and Role of the First Aider / IHCD First Person on Scene

  Scene and Patient Assessment

  First Aid at Work Legislation

  Airway and Breathing

o    Includes use of airways

o    Includes Oxygen Therapy

  Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

  Circulation, Shock and Haemorrhage Control

  Skeletal Trauma

o    Including use of entinox (optional)

  Spinal Injury Management

o    Including use of long spinal board

o    Including use of KED

o    Including use of scoop stretcher

o    Includes crash helmet removal techniques

  Moving and Handling

  Major and Minor Illnesses

  Poisoning

  Heart Problems and Defibrillation (2005 Protocols)

  Injury Assessment and Management

  Burns and Wounds

  Immobilisation and Extrication Practical Exercise

  Assisting the Paramedic

  Triage

The course includes both practical and written assessment. Successful students will be awarded an Institute of Health Care Development Intermediate Certificate and an HSE First Aid at Work certificate. Clinically endorsed by the Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care (Edinburgh) the IHCD Intermediate certificate confirms that the student has satisfied assessors that they have met the requirements of the course having reached a high level of knowledge and skill.
